„Welcome to Brooklyn, like no other place in the world!“ I couldn’t agree more on that. Brooklyn is the artificial and more spacious neighborhood of NYC. People are more laid-back and not so stressed out. There is art everywhere. Brooklyn is not about the money; it is about creating and enjoying life.
I am waking up in my apartment in Greenpoint, one of Brooklyn’s up and coming neighborhoods. It is Saturday and the sun is shining through the window. First stop to start the day right is the little neighborhood café BAKERI, just around the corner. I grab a coffee and one of their fantastic banana breads to go. I stroll down Franklin Ave and check out the boutiques on my way. I head down India Street towards the waterfront. There is a park with a pier wherefrom you have one of the most amazing views on the Manhattan skyline. Plus there are barley any tourist.
My next stop would be BEACON´S CLOSET (74 Guernsey), my favorite Vintage store.
As my tummy starts rumbling, I head down Bedford Avenue to meet friends and have lunch at the SMORGASBURG food festival, taking place every Saturday in Williamsburg at East River State Park (every Sunday at Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 5). Vegan Juices, Oysters, Tacos or Sticky Rice with Mango – it´s your choice! Every Sunday at East River State Park the Brooklyn Flea Market is taking place. A must for a Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn!
Afterwards, we head to ARTISTS & FLEA (70 North 7th St), just around the corner. Local artists sell their crafts and it is always worth it. They have lovely jewelry and handmade other treasures to discover.
After strolling around Greenpoint and Williamsburg, it´s time for some art and electronic beats. We are taking a cab to PS1 SUMMER WARM UP. The PS1 is part of the MoMA, an exhibition space rather than a collecting institution, MoMA PS1 devotes its energy and resources to displaying the most experimental art in the world. During Summer (June – September) MoMA PS1 presents WARM UP, taking place every Saturday. An outdoor music series introducing audiences to the best in experimental live music, sounds, and DJs (local and international) taking place at their courtyard.
Head back to Greenpoint for a late dinner at the amazing FIVE LEAVES. Great food, lovely venue, relaxed atmosphere.
End up your perfect day in Brooklyn with a drink at WHYTHE HOTEL´s roof top terrace and enjoy the spectacular view.
If you are still not convinced that there is no other place in the world like Brooklyn after a day like this, I can´t help it!
