MY PERFECT DAY IN BARCELONA

Barcelona – marvellous, timeless and warm. The first time I was travelling there and put my feet on the paved streets at Placa Catalunya, I directly felt home. I got knocked out by the people, the food, the architecture and even – well I have to admit, after some months they really get annoying – the street performers. There is so much to discover, so much to do, so much to love. Every time I return, Barcelona surprises and inspires me anew. These facts make it pretty hard to figure out what a perfect day in Barcelona would look like for me – however, there you go:

Waking up – of course later than I am used to in Germany – and allow myself to get caught up by the relaxed attitude of Spanish people. Open the doors of the balcony, letting the sun in and take a zip of my freshly brewed ginger tea. I would swing by CUP&CAKE, sit outside in the sun in good company as well as with a coffee, freshly pressed orange juice and a cigarette. After enjoying one of their amazing bagles, I would make up my way down to Bari Gotic. This area is a maze of tiny streets that turn around on each other and open into lovely squares and plazas. You can find loads of unique shops and boutiques, small cafés and restaurant as well as museums. I would go on to the Raval area and explore an exhibition at the MACBA Museum. If you love modern art, this is definitely worth a stop.

Being lunch hungry I would step into the Boqueria market which is strategically located at Barcelona’s most famous street – la Rambla. Inside of the market, all your senses will be stimulated and you will find almost everything the culinary heart desires: fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, candy and cheese. There is no other place where you can enjoy such fresh food!

Saturated, I would walk down the Ramblas in direction of the port and the beach of Barcelona. I would grab a beer, lay down on the sand for a while, listen to the sounds of the waves and simply enjoy myself. I would meet good friends and go on to MAKAMAKA BURGER CAFÉ, which is directly located at Barcelona’s beach promenade, and enjoy one of their famous and monthly changing cocktails.

For dinner, I would make a reservation at CERVECERIA CATALANA. This place is always being loud and crowded – with tourists but also with many locals. In my opinion, it is the best place in Barcelona to experience the typical flair of a Spanish tapas bar. I would definitely take the sirloin montadito as well as the mouthwatering pimientos de padron.

I would end my day with a couple of drinks at BOCA CHICA and reflect another amazing day in one of my favorite cities in Europe.

BARCELONA, SEE YOU SOON!
